Our Counselors

Crescent City Counseling Executive Director

 Dr. Roy Salgado, PhD.    
    
 Dr. Salgado received his B.S. in Psychology from Tulane University in 1995. He received his Masters degree in Counseling in 2000 and his Ph.D. in Mental Health Counseling in 2003 from the University of New Orleans. Dr. Salgado has also worked as a teacher for the Archdiocese of New Orleans School System. In addition to his teaching experience he has had diverse experiences as a counselor at an elementary school, a high school, a child and adolescent youth ranch, a community agency, and in private practice. His research interests are in the area of child and adolescent neglect and abuse, play therapy, child and adolescent development, and family counseling. He has also served as an Assistant Professor of Counseling and Psychology at Xavier University of Louisiana. Dr. Salgado currently provides mental health services to members of the Hispanic community through his work with the Hispanic Apostolate of Catholic Charities, as well as works with the general population in private practice. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Salgado serves as an Assistant Professor of Counseling at Our Lady of Holy Cross College. He also contributes to the counseling program as Practicum and Internship Coordinator, School Counseling Coordinator, and as moderator for the Association for Graduate Students in Counseling.

Crescent City Counseling Clinical Director

Dottie M. Martin, LPC, NCC

Dottie M. Martin is a licensed professional counselor and a national certified counselor. She has worked in the field of counseling for six years in a community, clinical and school setting.  Her experience at counseling centers, treatment facilities and schools has allowed her to build knowledge of physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the New Orleans community. 

Dottie received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Counseling and her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. She also received an ancillary certification in school counseling from the University of New Orleans and specialized training in Play Therapy.  Dottie is currently a third year doctoral student working toward her PhD in Counselor Education. 

Dottie’s clientele primarily consists of children, adolescents, couples and families.  Her areas of specialty within this population include: interpersonal relationship conflict, parent/child communication repair, behavior modification, depression, self-esteem issues, trauma, adjustment issues, and family transitions.

Dottie offers a confidential atmosphere of respect and compassion where you can express your concerns and feelings through supportive listening and expert guidance.  She works with you to strengthen your self-awareness and personal empowerment helping to improve your tools to make conscious, positive changes which can improve your life experiences.





Jodee Elliot, M.A., LPC, NCC
 

 

Jodee Elliot is a licensed professional counselor and a national certified counselor.  She received her M.A. in Marriage and Family Counseling along with an ancillary certification in school counseling from Our Lady of Holy Cross College.  Jodee has six years of counseling experience, both at clinical and school settings.  She currently works full time as a school counselor, while maintaining a private practice, and fulfilling her role as site supervisor for UNO doctoral students in counseling. 

Jodee began her training as an intern at Trinity Counseling Training Center in New Orleans, where she received specialized training in trauma/disaster relief counseling, play therapy, couples and family therapy, along with individual issues such as depression and bipolar mood disorders, sexual trauma, and addiction.  Jodee has served on the executive board of the LOUSIANA COUNSELING ASSOCIATION and on LASERVIC (Louisiana Association of Spiritual, Ethical and Religion Values in Counseling), where she recently completed her term as President. 

Jodee’s clientele consists primarily of adolescent females, young adult women, and couples.  Her areas of specialty within this population include:  depression self-esteem issues, trauma, spiritual impasse, adjustment issues, mother/daughter communication repair, and interpersonal relationship conflict.  Jodee also has extensive experience in multicultural issues, particularly with second generation Middle Eastern and Eastern European immigrants assimilating to the American culture while maintaining their cultural identity.  As a school counselor at a New Orleans all girls private high school for five years, Jodee is in tune with the needs of adolescent females, and is passionate about helping them navigate today’s object-obsessed culture.

 



Counseling Interns:

Ouida Frazier-Smith, MA, NCC, LPC (Intern), LMFT (Intern)

 

Ouida received her B.S. from Alcorn State University. She received her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of Holy Cross College.  Ouida has four years of experience in clinical practice.  She has worked as a medical advocate for survivors of sexual assault, and has provided counseling services for at-risk adolescents in the juvenile justice system.  She currently facilitates peer groups within a local New Orleans charter school network, as well as provides individual, family, and couples counseling in private practice.  In addition to her clinical work, Ouida is also an Adjunct Professor of Counseling and Behavioral Sciences at Our Lady of Holy Cross College.
